6OTS Presents Musician/Actor Ronny Cox Friday, March 12th OXFORD - 6 On The Square (6OTS) is proud to present musician/actor Ronny Cox who will be appearing on Friday, March 12th, at 7:30 PM. Originally from Cloudcroft, New Mexico, Ronny is a singer, writer, guitarist, and especially a storyteller. Cox’s songs are like him, they’re eclectic, funny, touching, insightful and compelling. Come and be enchanted by Ronny’s charisma; his laid back, Southwestern folk sound will put a smile on your face and make you feel good inside. For over 35 years, Ronny Cox has had a very successful acting career portraying a diverse range of characters. You may recognize him from movies like TOTAL RECALL, ROBOCOPand in the sci-fi TV series STARGATE SG-1. In his first film, he was the guitarist in the famous "dueling banjos" scene in DELIVERANCE. His second big film was BOUND FOR GLORY, Hal Ashby’s film about Woody Guthrie. His acting career spans over a hundred and twenty-five films and television shows, but you may not know that he’s an accomplished musician, writing songs that reflect an easygoing approach to life sparked with the ups and downs we all encounter. Ronny grew up in New Mexico listening to Texas Swing tunes, but then played rock & roll in high school, and was eventually drawn to folk music after graduating from college. His focus for many years has been acting, but a few years ago he come back full circle to his first love, his musical roots, and has been very successful since. To-date, he has released five CDs – a varied mixture of jazz, folk and western tunes. Ronny’s new recording, “Ronny Cox…Songs With Repercussions” reached the number one position in the country in the Folk DJ chart folk record this past summer and ended up in the #49 position for the entire year. Each tune showcases an original, sophisticated lyric-driven sound and the stories that accompany these songs…are something else entirely. In February, 2010 Wind River Records will be re-releasing Ronny’s excellent tribute to the great songwriter Mickey Newbury entitled “How I Love Them Old Songs”. “He charms crowds with self-teasing humor, tart progressive insight, and a lulling Southwestern folk sound….” Scott Alarik, Boston Globe. Only in the last 10 years has the world seen him evolve from being an “actor who sings” into knowing him as a “singer who happens to have a pretty fair career acting.” This will be a special musical evening with an icon of the music and acting industry. Accompanying Ronny will be the very talented Radoslav Lorkovic. Purchase tickets on-line at the discounted price of $20 until the day of the show; $25 at the door. Doors open at 6:30 PM. Don't miss the upcoming performance by Italian acoustic guitarist, Peppino D’Agostino on Saturday, March 27th. All shows are at 7:30 PM, with doors opening at 6:30 PM. Visit the website at www.6onthesquare.org for tickets and future event information. In addition, 6OTS’ art gallery will have an exhibit of works by Norwich native, Jill S. Kraft. The Opening Reception will be on Wednesday, March 10th, from 5-7 PM. 6OTS is continuing to collect food items for the Oxford Food Pantry; you may drop them in the basket as you enter. The Pantry sincerely thanks the generous community for your past donations. 6OTS is located at 6 LaFayette Park in downtown Oxford. Phone: (607) 843-OTS6 (6876). Be there...on the Square!
